A quick recap of where we came from, and more importantly, where we are going. First we tried Facebook groups. Then we started streaming 1 – 2 classes a day on Zoom from our local studios. But both of these options were missing something big – YOU!! We had no idea on Facebook if we were talking to dead air the entire class – there was no one there on our end, that we knew of. We loved making the transition to Zoom – better audio capabilities and the ability to 2-way video conference (so we can SEE you – civilization, woo hoo!!). But we felt like we were still missing a large majority of our members, live. Some of you could join in live on those 1-2 classes daily, but most of you could not. And let’s all be honest with each other. No one pushes as hard from home when there’s not that accountability, or energy, of doing it live with others (and your cameras ON babes!). A recorded class is a fantastic plan B, but it’s like taking a class without sound. You can mirror the moves pretty well, but you’re not getting the full experience.

To me having a living yoga practice means doing my asana, pranayama, meditation and allowing yoga to help me grow
To help me love myself and love others with respect. To recognise those things that don’t serve me and to let them go. Working through challenges on my mat encourages in me the integrity to work through challenges in my life.
First rule of Yoga Club.
Bring your mat, leave your sass at home
So, I took my first yoga class today. I mean, like my first yoga class EVER. I am at least slightly aware of the trends of the world around me, and as a 40-something Gen Xer, and have been painfully aware that yoga, along with tons of other things borrowed from ancient monks, has kinda become a thing. They even make special pants for it. If you know me at all, you might not be surprised that I’m really not “a yoga person.” I’m everything yoga is NOT: I’m essentially a klutzy, loud, awkward, generally muddy, uncouth, disheveled, irregular breather. I’ve refused even attempting it for years because, well…. refer to previous sentence. I’m also a mighty large lady, and since popping out another human, my midsection has gotten soft and wobbly (like a perfect flan). Flexibility and bending and folding and…

Celebrate You!
One of my favorite things to do when I am out somewhere like a coffee shop, restaurant or my personal favorite, the airport, is people watch. People are so interesting to me for a lot of reasons but especially because we come in such a variety of shapes, sizes colors and features. It always strikes me how we can be so similar in some very basic ways yet so different in a lot of others. Besides our physical features, we all tend to have our own sense of style, taste, and personal preferences when it comes to things like food, clothing, music, movies, books, etc. These differences are what makes us well, us. They also make us unique and, in my opinion, our uniqueness is what makes us interesting. Wouldn’t it be boring if we all liked the same things, all looked alike, and in turn had nothing new or…

So, what exactly is BMI?
fitness, health, weight loss
Simply put, your BMI is a ratio of your weight compared to
your height. It really is that simple. In fact, it is that simplicity that
means that BMI isn’t always a 100% reliable way to judge if your body shape is
putting you at risk of weight-related health problems.
Now, that’s not to say that you should ignore the BMI value
you get – a healthy adult should be looking at having a BMI value of between
18.5 and 25 and if you do have a value of above 35 in particular then you are
definitely at risk of weight-related health problems, regardless of any other
factor.
That said, for the 25-35 BMI range there are a few risk
categories which may cause over or under-estimation, which include:
- Age – BMI is meant to be used for adults,
so for children it often requires a more specialised calculation as…

Functional Fitness
crossfit, fitness, functional health, transformation
In August of 2017, my friend Jessie who is a Coach at a local Crossfit gym, invited me and
several friends to a class she was teaching that was starting in September called Get Fit! I had tried a number of things over the years of young motherhood to manage my diet and fitness, like running and yoga and learning more about how to cook and eat in a balanced manner. I had run a number of 5K and 10K races and I frequently would run my energetic dog for exercise.
I was very intrigued by Crossfit when I started to meet more and more women who were involved in it and who had transformed their physical appearance by working out at Crossfit gyms. I had previously assumed this was a guy thing and that it would be ridiculously hard-too hard for me to ever succeed at as…

Understanding the Strength vs. Flexibility Conundrum
Flexibility, PNF, range of motion, ROM, squat, static active stretch, strength, wall kick
I found a common concern that’s raised in martial arts circles regarding strength training and its effects on flexibility on a recent Reddit post. Let’s read:
I’ve been struggling for years to find a balance between building muscle (especially legs) through weight training and improving flexibility. I feel like I’ve tried everything, or maybe i just wasn’t patient enough. I would train legs through weighted squats, then I’m so sore and tight (especially hamstrings) i cannot stretch probably for most of a week. So i would start to get bigger legs but then my flexibility and kicking would go down hill. Then i would freak out and back off weight training and focus on flexibility again but then my legs never seem to grow. I know it’s possible to do both within reason, are there others who have had similar experiences and if so how did you work around…

Free Community Workouts in Miami
community workout , fitness , free workout , healthy lifestyle , lifestyle blog , mental health , miami , miami workout , physical health , workout , yoga
I’m huge fan of community workouts, not only because they are free (I’m on a tight budget), but also because they allow me to enjoy the beautiful Miami weather alongside my local community.
I get frustrated consistently looking at different websites for free workouts that are happening, especially since the information is not organized in a clear way. I also realize that many of the websites that do post multiple events are not up to date- sometimes I’ve shown up to different locations only to discover those community workouts are no longer happening. I figure I would post the community workouts that I have been to, or have heard positive things about, in one place here.
You can find some of my favorite free community workouts in Miami (organized by day of the week) below. I will try my best to keep this up to date!

Introduction
fitness, happiness, health, weight loss
Hi everybody! My name is Allison and I am a 21-year-old Accounting student that is on a journey from being uncomfortable and self-conscious and insecure in her own skin to a woman who loves herself and her body.
I used to be in VERY good shape. When I was little, I did both dance and soccer and eventually played select soccer on an elite team and was very athletic. I did cross country in middle school, played a little bit of high school soccer and kept dance in my life through show choir from my sixth-grade year to my senior year of high school.
I started to gain weight in my sophomore year of high school and it hasn’t really stopped since. Sophomore year was a bad year for me; I went through 2 breakups, the death of my grandfather, my best friend moving away, and a severe concussion that…

Eh, back to the “grind” of coping, managing, and “getting by”…
Depression, Fitness, self discipline, Weight loss
If only it could be easier, says….everyone?
I wish so hard that it could be, would be easier….but it isn’t.
I wish so hard that I could fly out of bed feeling energized and motivated every day, but I don’t.
I wish that I only craved healthy food choices and in small amounts, but that ain’t me.
I wish that life was mostly easy, with just enough challenge and adversity to make me feel accomplished…if only it could be so nice.
But it isn’t. Most of the time on most days my feeling is, “damn this shit is hard!”
But, with the worst of my depression at bay…it IS do-able. It just isn’t easy. Damn.
I guess if being fit and healthy was easy, we would all be there. We would all be living long healthy lives full of energy and pizzazz…and there would be no lines at Cinnabon.
But…
