I was tired of being sore, tired of expending half of my energy at the gym each morning, and tired of feeling much older than I thought I should

I had what I would consider an exercise obsession (work off everything you eat) and overly strict diet (I’m talking zero fat- very bad). So, I quickly realized that working in the field would not be the best long-term fit for me. I choose not to work in a field that is based largely on superficial results. And yes, there are a lot of internal physical benefits to exercise, and I will continue to offer advice and exercise myself, but being totally immersed in the fitness industry is not for me. I don’t find it rewarding on the level I am looking for. For some, it’s the perfect fit, and that’s great. It’s just not for me.

Now that I’ve started to even LIKE what greets me in the mirror, it’s getting harder and harder to say no to ice cream

Let me tell you though, the plateau on top of the mountain is a breath of fresh air and a sigh of relief.  It is the ‘this body ran five miles’ instead of the ‘this body ate 150 calories over’.  It is laughing when it downpours during a walk instead of panicking to find a different way to burn 300 calories.  And it is the recognition that nothing in the world can beat a good scoop of ice cream.

Bring your mat, leave your sass at home

So, I took my first yoga class today. I mean, like my first yoga class EVER. I am at least slightly aware of the trends of the world around me, and as a 40-something Gen Xer, and have been painfully aware that yoga, along with tons of other things borrowed from ancient monks, has kinda become a thing. They even make special pants for it. If you know me at all, you might not be surprised that I’m really not “a yoga person.” I’m everything yoga is NOT: I’m essentially a klutzy, loud, awkward, generally muddy, uncouth, disheveled, irregular breather. I’ve refused even attempting it for years because, well…. refer to previous sentence. I’m also a mighty large lady, and since popping out another human, my midsection has gotten soft and wobbly (like a perfect flan). Flexibility and bending and folding and…

Celebrate You!

One of my favorite things to do when I am out somewhere like a coffee shop, restaurant or my personal favorite, the airport, is people watch.  People are so interesting to me for a lot of reasons but especially because we come in such a variety of shapes, sizes colors and features.  It always strikes me how we can be so similar in some very basic ways yet so different in a lot of others.  Besides our physical features, we all tend to have our own sense of style, taste, and personal preferences when it comes to things like food, clothing, music, movies, books, etc.  These differences are what makes us well, us. They also make us unique and, in my opinion, our uniqueness is what makes us interesting.  Wouldn’t it be boring if we all liked the same things, all looked alike, and in turn had nothing new or…

As I sit at home this morning, enjoying the snow day, I try to motivate myself to go on a run. I’ve been doing pretty good with working out. I have only taken 2 days off since the first of the year, which, I say, is reasonable. But, today I just couldn’t seem to get myself motivated.

Last night, I was looking online at clothes, and found myself avoiding adding some tops I really liked being added to my cart. I would tell myself, “maybe when you’ve lost more weight, you could try something like this.” Or seeing skirts that were my style, but short, saying “maybe when you’ve gotten down to a size 0.” And today motivating myself to run, all I could think about was being fat.

Honestly, I am by NO MEANS fat. I just struggle a lot with body image. I allowed others to determine…
